The project is centered around the idea of the particulate imaginary where students were asked to conduct an investigation of a certain particulate of interest. The idea of the particulate imaginary is a theoretical investigation of the struggle to understand matter as something that prompts emotional, intellectual, and political responses. The Galena Park Wellness Center project manifested through the extensive research of the particulate, Benzene, a Class A carcinogen that is commonly found in the air of Galena Park, Texas. After analyzing its effects on the environment and people of Galena Park, the proposal for this project was to provide a space for healing, restoring, and repairing the health of Galena Park residents who are affected by petrochemical pollution; a space to help people improve their overall wellness.
